Snorkeling in Sri Lanka
Two coasts, two seasons. Snorkel with turtles from the shore in Mirissa on the south coast, or take a boat to the coral reefs of Nilaveli on the east coast. As the monsoon moves, the snorkeling moves with it — whichever coast is in season, the other can be pre-booked for when it opens. Gear, a life jacket, refreshments and GoPro photos are always included.

Snorkeling in Sri Lanka — FAQ
It depends on the season. Sri Lanka has two snorkeling coasts, and they take turns. On the south coast, Mirissa is at its best from 1 November to 10 April — you snorkel with turtles straight from the beach. On the east coast, Nilaveli runs from 30 April to 15 October, reached by a short boat ride to Angel Rock and Coral Island. Whichever coast is in season, the other can be pre-booked for when it opens.
Not necessarily. We adapt every trip to your comfort in the water. In Mirissa the snorkeling is from the shore — no boat, no deep water. In Nilaveli you go out by boat, and both spots suit non-swimmers who are comfortable wearing a life jacket and following the guide. We've hosted many guests who had never swum before.
Yes. Mask, fins and snorkel are included in the price, along with a life jacket and refreshments after the trip. We also bring a GoPro and capture photos and videos of you in the water at no extra charge — it just happens.

Sri Lanka's snorkeling seasons follow the monsoon. Mirissa on the south coast runs 1 November to 10 April, with calm seas and clear water. Nilaveli on the east coast runs 30 April to 15 October, when the water there is flat and visibility is often exceptional. There's good snorkeling somewhere on the island for much of the year — you just switch coasts.
Yes. The minimum age for snorkeling is 6, and children under 12 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Life jackets are provided for all sizes.
