Snorkeling in Sri Lanka
Two coasts, two ways to snorkel. In Mirissa on the south coast you snorkel with resident turtles straight from the beach, year-round. In Nilaveli on the east coast, a short boat ride reaches the coral reefs of Angel Rock and Coral Island in season (30 April – 25 September), and it can be pre-booked ahead of its opening. Gear, a life jacket, refreshments and GoPro photos are always included.

Snorkeling in Sri Lanka — FAQ
Sri Lanka has two snorkeling coasts. On the south coast, Mirissa runs year-round — you snorkel with resident turtles straight from the beach. On the east coast, Nilaveli runs from 30 April to 25 September, reached by a short boat ride to Angel Rock and Coral Island. Nilaveli can be pre-booked ahead of its season; Mirissa is open whenever you visit.
Not necessarily. We adapt every trip to your comfort in the water. In Mirissa the snorkeling is from the shore — no boat, no deep water. In Nilaveli you go out by boat, and both spots suit non-swimmers who are comfortable wearing a life jacket and following the guide. We've hosted many guests who had never swum before.
Yes. Mask, fins and snorkel are included in the price, along with a life jacket and refreshments after the trip. We also bring a GoPro and capture photos and videos of you in the water at no extra charge — it just happens.

Mirissa on the south coast is open year-round — resident turtles on the reef off the beach, calm and shallow whatever the month. Nilaveli on the east coast runs 30 April to 25 September, when the water there is flat and visibility is often exceptional. So there's good snorkeling somewhere on the island all year.
Yes. The minimum age for snorkeling is 6, and children under 12 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Life jackets are provided for all sizes.
