PADI Courses in Sri Lanka
Every PADI course we run is taught to the same worldwide standard, on two coasts that trade seasons — so there's almost always one side of Sri Lanka to get in the water. Start from zero with the Open Water course, step up to Advanced Open Water when you want to go deeper, or take the shorter PADI Scuba Diver certification as a first official step.
Courses begin in the pool with an instructor beside you — not straight off a boat — and move out to real reefs only once you're comfortable. Off Mirissa in the south, that means green turtles on the reef right off our centre; off Nilaveli in the east, it's coral gardens, blacktip reef sharks and some of the clearest water on the island. Mirissa
Opens November1 November – 10 April
PADI Open Water Diver
The world's most recognised dive certification, earned in the open ocean off Mirissa — pool first, then real reefs, not three days in a swimming pool. You leave with a licence that works at every dive site on earth, and probably a few turtle photos.
PADI Advanced Open Water
Already certified — now go deeper. Five dives over two days off Mirissa: navigation, deeper water, and three adventure dives you choose. It changes how you dive the south coast.
PADI Scuba Diver
Halfway to Open Water, the quickest way in officially. Two days off Mirissa, a pool session and two ocean dives, one certification — always under the guidance of a PADI Pro.
Nilaveli
In season30 April – 15 October
PADI Open Water Diver
Get certified in the clear water of the east coast. The PADI Open Water course over three days off Nilaveli — pool session first, then coral reefs and reef sharks. A licence that opens every ocean after.
PADI Advanced Open Water
Push past Open Water in the east coast's visibility. Five dives, two days off Nilaveli — deep, navigation, and three adventures you pick, over some of Sri Lanka's clearest reefs.
PADI Scuba Diver
The fast, official first step — two days off Nilaveli, two dives in clear water, one recognised certification. You dive with a PADI Pro alongside.

No. If you've never dived, Discover Scuba Diving takes you underwater with an instructor — pool first, then the ocean — no certification. If you want a licence, the PADI Open Water course certifies you from scratch.
It depends on the coast. The south (Mirissa) and the east (Nilaveli) run on opposite seasons, so there's almost always one side that's diveable. Tell us your dates and we'll point you to the right coast.
